Andersson, Richard
Títle Space Odyssey (Embrace the Galaxy) (2003)
Label Regain Records

We aren't going to discover Mr. Andersson as one of the great names of neoclassical-progressive metal now, although one asks oneself why so many bands and/or projects if they all end up sounding more or less alike.

The only peculiarity of this new project is Patrik Johansson on vocals, who doesn't use many high peaks or falsettos, something not too usual in the genre.

The usual quality, although the usual melodies as well, those we already found in Majestic or Time Requiem, although in this case less happy in their majority, but tending to sound like Symphony X (just listen to "Despair and Pain", among others, if you don't believe me), something we started to notice with the first Time Requiem CD.

Basically, nothing new, nothing original, just the name, contradicting that old progressive metal definition that said something like: using a great technique, scales that seem impossible become melodies over rhythms that are arrhythmic in theory or that follow no pattern, but that in practice and added to those melodies, acquire it.

And despite it being a good job and all that you say in these cases, listening to the cd isn't worth it if you already own any of the aforementioned Majestic, Time Requiem or Symphony X's latest releases.
