Debut of this Swedish quintet, that
recorded the cd in Denmark and sing in English (not at a lack
of influences, are they?). Generally, you could say that the
best part is the cover, with that devastated and chaotic landscape,
and the nice lady in charge of the vocals. Lucky the booklet
includes some pictures of the aforementioned lady and we can
distract ourselves gazing into those beautiful green eyes,
because the record is a loop of monotony that is too repetitive
in too many senses.
Johanna De Pierre's vocal tonality does not change throughout
the record, so I guess she doesn't have much vocal ease and
agility. In fact, I suspect that this ease and agility may
be hiding in other parts and actions, something I really wouldn't
mind checking out.
And the same can be said about the rhythmic base, which despite
being based on somewhat aggressive riffs (not that much actually),
are as monotonous -or more- than the vocal section, while
the solos are usually quite short and not too complex, something
that leads one to classify the record as boring. If the ease
and agility of these four guys are also in some other parts,
it is something I am not at all eager to find out.
Overall, a bit of a poor album which will not go into history
as one of the best debuts of the year... although my opinion
could change if Miss De Pierre got in touch with me to show
me her ease and agility...
