Amalgama is a band from Elche (Alicante) that has been around for some years now trying to open up a breach in the national scene which is progressively offering more bands, some of which quite good, but nevertheless, a scene which has still a long way to go, and almost always with the sights put on points beyond our frontiers.
The release of "Sui-Generis" has brought back some good memories of the band's demo phase, where they already showed good manners. You could clearly hear the seventies influences, especially of the more classical Purple, that are now so evident in their record debut.
The improvement of the band in this space of time has been considerable as regards their technique and individual capabilities. Additionally, they have taken time to polish any roughness, that is, their playing coordination and the definition of a truly personal style, even despite perfuming the air with some interesting 70's scents, that have nevertheless been adequately adapted to more up-to-date heavy formulas.
It is quite difficult to find any optimism in the lyrics that make up "Sui-Generis"; this actually represents a step further for differentiating Amalgama from the rest of the domestic Heavy Metal. The most representative songs are "El Fin", "Sin Salida" or the fortunately recovered "Ángel", where the band's singer, Tomás Marín, excells. All of the above makes of Amalgama a rara avis of the national scene, and its wings are black.
