Adagio
Títle Underworld (2003)
Label Avalon

If anyone thought that Adagio was but an ephemeral project, they shouldn't think so much and start drinking or picking up girls, since here we have this new release, conceived almost as a Metal Opera, which is between Melodic and Neoclassical Metal, including some references to the progressive side and, of course, moments of orchestral pomp and choirs combined with moments of instrumental minimalism on the piano.

Even so, that definition cannot cover all we can find in this release since, for instance, we have an incredible David Readman on vocals, and despite being the typical singer with a slightly torn melodic voice, we can hear him singing the hardest parts as if he were a Death singer.

The record is much faster than "Sanctus Ignis" and also shows a lot more the personal technique of its members and the classical formation of several of them. It is also a lot more lively and varied than other cds of the same style, such as Virgin Steele's trilogy (by the way, does anyone know whether they finished it or fell asleep trying?).

A great cd as regards its composition and execution, which despite being very good technically speaking, does not bore or make you sick, even considering the two French musicians among them; that shows one shouldn't criticise so much...
