Steel (Acero) is basically an alloy of iron and carbon, that
combines resistance and malleability and that, due to its
properties, can be handled according to specific needs using
heat treatments, mechanical procedures or by means of alloys...
Or at least that's what the specialized books say about it.
In South America, and more specifically, in Costa Rica, it
seems that a new kind of Steel (Acero) has been discovered,
in the shape of a musical band that makes its debut in this
scene with the record "Pasado y Presente".
This new band, as the Steel (Acero) it is based on, imitates
the properties of the material itself and still needs a lot
of work before a final result acceptable for whoever ends
up listening to a CD of theirs can be achieved. We have a
very rock'n'rollish start, with songs that although lack originality,
are cheerful and sound ok (as regards the sound of the band,
not of the cd, which isn't that good) but from the second
half of the record on, the songs become monotonous, basically
because they are mid-tempos with none of the rhythm characteristic
to Rock and Roll. More complex? Maybe so, but they lack the
strength and catchiness required for people to pay attention
to an unknown band that is making its debut.
You can see the album as half good or half bad, that depends
on the preferences of each consumer. So, knowing that steel
can be handled according to one's needs (Acero, won't be less)...
with a little more work and some more rock'n'rolling rhythms,
the improvement is guaranteed.
