Abyss
Títle Redencion
Label Goimusic

"Redención", is a good Melodic Metal record, although Ciruelo's cover could lead us to thinking that this is yet another Maiden substitute band with an epical touch.

The cross they will have to bear will be the comparisons with Avalanch, not so much because of the style, since Abyss does not include progressive touches and are more direct than the band from Asturias, but because of both their singers -Jaime García and Víctor García (nope, they are not related)- ranges, even if Jaime does not use (or overuse, depending on how you look at it) so many high pitches. In any case, they may be lucky that the release of the record has coincided with Víctor being sacked from Avalanch.

They have elegantly escaped from the typical and topical epical and heroic themes, with double and triple interpretations of their lyrics that actually talk about anyone's everyday life, although in principle we could believe that the lyrics are of the sort we were saying before.

They have some work to do on the technical side, despite them not being bad musicians, which is proven by the fact that many bands in their second or third releases do not have the level shown by Abyss in this their first record. Nevertheless, one misses some technical details, more elaborate solos or a drum line with more rhythm changes or just better rhythms.
